The museum’s panorama film "The ocean –
a way of life" takes the audience on a cruise along the fantastic
Norwegian coast. Relax and enjoy views of our fabulous scenery to the
sound of enchanting music. Visitors to the museum can watch the film throughout
the year. A visual sea voyage along the coast of Norway.

Maritime Norway

The Norwegian Maritime Museum is in a fantastic location,
right on the edge of the Oslo Fjord. The museum was built on a naze overlooking
the city, called Bygdøynes, and is right next door to the Kon-Tiki
and Fram Museums, so visitors can see all three maritime museums and enjoy
exploring the grounds and beach as well. |
Norway – a seafaring
nation

Get the feel of the old sailing ships and steam vessels from the ship
interiors, maritime objects and exquisite ship models on display. The
museum also houses all kinds of objects found on the sea bed and a collection
of maritime curiosities.

Unique collection of paintings

The museum houses exhibition of maritime paintings by well-known Norwegian
artists. |
Coastal Norway

A presentation of Norway’s coastline and coastal
culture featuring traditional wooden boats, fishing tackle and an interesting
display of old artefacts once used in shipbuilding and stockfish production.
The exhibition is closed for development
from Sept. 15th 2009 – Summer 2010. |
On exhibition now:
- Norway’s oldest boat – the 2,200 year-old Bronze Age log
boat.
- Track the boats on Oslo fjord as they sail into the harbour by watching
the radar equipment at the museum.

40 NOK adults, 25 NOK students and seniors, free admission for children

The
Norwegian Maritime Museum has its own shop with a wide choice of souvenirs;
traditional souvenirs from Norway, many maritime souvenirs featuring Norwegian
literature and the Maritime Museum’s own products, such as mugs,
baseball caps etc and last, but by no means least, DVDs of the panorama
film "The ocean – a way of life".
